Dragon's causeway

This area was created approximately 400,000 years ago by lava that flowed down the valley when a small volcano, Mt. Irao-yama, erupted. As the lava cooled, cracks appeared in the surface, giving it a unique design like the scales of a dragon. Local people refer to this area as the "Dragon's Causeway".
